Getting Ahead Of The Curve

Use a mathematical concept to get ahead of the curve.

Use a mathematical concept to get ahead of the curve.

To move forward in many areas of life, including your career, it's sometimes necessary to change radically even when things are going well. This means starting a new course that will be different from the existing one.

It is what Thomas Kuhn, the American philosopher termed a 'paradigm shift'. When do you start a new course or project and what's the problem with staying with the current one?

This is where Charles Handy’s Second Curve concept is helpful. In this exercise, we will explain the concept and ask you a series of questions to help you pre-emptively develop your second curve.

Charles Handy CBE is an Irish author/philosopher specialising in organisational behaviour and management. He has been rated among the Thinkers 50, a list of the most influential living management thinkers. In 2001 he was second on this list, behind Peter Drucker. If you'd like to know more, you can always read Handy's book, The Second Curve.
